KFC UK and Ireland offer halal foods in 92 restaurants in areas where there is a large demand. The Halal Food Authority (HFA) certifies our products in these restaurants, and the environment they are prepared in, as halal. The HFA accreditation is clearly signposted in participating restaurants and allows us to offer halal-certified products while remaining committed to the same animal welfare standards as our non-halal restaurants, which meet or exceed all relevant UK and EU legislation.
Before trialling halal foods, we consulted leading animal welfare groups to ensure that halal-certified chicken complied with our rigorous welfare standards. As with all our poultry, halal or otherwise, all birds are stunned before slaughter using a technique called 'stun-to-stun', a pain-free process that ensures the animal does not suffer.
The HFA is one of the most widely recognised halal bodies in the UK and overseas. It allows the use of 'stun-to-stun' and accredits a significant number of restaurants and food suppliers in the UK to ensure that the edicts and requirements for halal accreditation are strictly followed.
